Public confidence in West Mercia Police remains stable in Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin

Confidence in West Mercia Police has remained stable in Telford & Wrekin, whilst dropping slightly in Shropshire, according to the latest perceptions survey run by Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion.

In Shropshire, confidence in West Mercia Police stands at 76% whilst in nearby Telford & Wrekin it’s at 81%.

With anti-social behaviour often raised as a top concern for the public, proactive policing is ensuring a majority of residents in both Shropshire (77%) and Telford (72%) feel ASB is not much of a problem, if at all.

There has been a dip in the number of respondents who feel the force is doing an excellent or good job in the area, a 5% fall in Shropshire to 57% and 3% in Telford & Wrekin to 58%.

Other findings include –

  • 24% of respondents in Telford & Wrekin said they see an officer or PCSO at least weekly – up 6% from the same period last year.
  • Residents in Shropshire are 87% confident they could access the police in an emergency, and 93% in Telford.
  • Around half of respondents in Shropshire & Telford & Wrekin feel informed about what West Mercia Police is doing.

PCC John Campion said: “These results show that while confidence in West Mercia Police remains strong, particularly in Telford & Wrekin, there’s still work to do in ensuring every community feels the full benefit of our investment in policing.

“I’m encouraged by the rise in officer visibility and the public’s reassurance around anti-social behaviour, but I take seriously the dip in perceptions of police performance. I remain committed to working with the Chief Constable to drive improvements, strengthen engagement, and ensure that residents not only are safe, but feel safe too.”
