Roads Focus

From January to December 2025, there were 462 collisions on West Mercia's roads, which resulted in 55 deaths and 473 serious injuries. Of these, 11 of the fatalities and 78 of those seriously injured, were the driver of a motorcycle.

Speed was the main contributing factor in 63 of the total collisions in 2025. Alcohol and/or drugs was a factor in 33 of them.

Focused on playing his part to reduce harm on our roads, the PCC wants to work with communities and partners to make positive change on our roads in West Mercia and reduce the number of preventable road deaths.

The PCC’s Roads Focus campaign focuses on different areas and different road user groups.

Ensuring the voice of the public is at the heart of change, the PCC hosted four online sessions that were focused on the top four vulnerable road users to understand their road safety concerns.

In each session people had the opportunity to raise their concerns with the PCC as well as hear from West Mercia Police about the work already happening to tackle road safety concerns.

Following the sessions, the PCC has been working with relevant partners to act on the views and concerns and make change.
