Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

PDF documents
Some of our content is in PDF format where a durable format is needed.
PDFs across the site violate the following issues:

- WCAG 2.4.2 Page titled
- WCAG 3.1.1 Language of Page
- WCAG 1.1.1 Non-text content

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations
PDFs and other documents
Some of our PDFs and Word documents are essential to providing our services. For example, we have PDFs with information on how users can access our services, and forms published as Word documents. We plan to have these fixed or replaced with accessible HTML pages. We will endeavour to ensure any new PDFs or Word documents we publish will meet the accessibility standards and best practice.
The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services. We will however seek to fix or replace our key policy documents and publications (Annual Reports/Police and Crime Plan).
Live video
We do not plan to add captions to live video streams because live video is exempt from meeting the accessibility regulations.
Podcasts Published Pre 23rd September 2020
Some podcasts do not have a text transcript. We are not going to add transcripts onto existing podcasts but have changed the format of our podcasts to make them accessible. They are now video recorded; the recordings include open captions.
