Confidence in West Mercia Police remains stable in Telford & Wrekin

“Whenever I have needed the police, they have always been there for me” is just one comment from a Telford & Wrekin resident who took part in Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion’s latest perception survey.

Overall confidence in West Mercia Police in Telford & Wrekin has remained stable, standing at 80% between April and June 2026 – consistent with the same period in 2025.

Perceptions of police visibility have also remained similar, with 24% of respondents saying they are likely to see an officer or PCSO at least weekly. Views varied, with one resident noting: “We do not see the police presence like we used to. I would not go out alone at night,” while another said: “The police are there when we need them.”

Keeping residents informed about policing activity remains important, and 56% of respondents feel well updated on the work taking place in their area.

Other findings include:

  • 66% of respondents feel they would receive a good service from West Mercia Police
  • 31% believe crime and anti‑social behaviour are a problem in their area (up from 28%)

PCC John Campion said: “Confidence in policing is shaped by everyday experiences – whether people feel safe, whether they see officers in their community, and whether they believe the police will be there when they need them.

“It is encouraging to see confidence in Telford & Wrekin holding steady, and I want to thank local officers and staff for the work they do, often unseen, to keep communities safe.

“These results also highlight where continued focus is needed, particularly around visibility and tackling crime. I will continue to challenge and support the Chief Constable to ensure policing remains accessible, responsive and rooted in the needs of local people.”
