PCC Celebrates Armed Forces Day
The Police and Crime Commissioner is joining West Mercia Police to support this year's Armed Forces Day (AFD) celebrations, which begin today.
Armed Forces Day is an opportunity to show our support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community – from currently serving troops to service families, reservists, veterans and cadets.
In a visible demonstration of this support, the Armed Forces Day flag will be flown on a number of stations across the West Mercia policing area – including force HQ at Hindlip – on the week leading up to Armed Forces Day on Saturday 29 June.
The PCC and the force will also support Reservist Day on 26 June and where appropriate, staff that are reservists will be encouraged to wear their service uniform to work.
Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion said: “Much like our police officers, our armed forces make major sacrifices and demonstrate incredible bravery to keep us safe. The support given on Armed Forces Day is an excellent way to reaffirm our gratitude and commitment towards our military personnel.
As Commissioner, I’ve worked alongside the Armed Forces’ Covenant to strengthen the pathways and services for veterans, ensuring their needs are fully understood.”
Assistant Chief Constable Martin Evans added: “We are proud to have a number of reservists and veterans amongst our staff, they bring with them a range of skills and experience that transfers well to policing, enhancing the diversity within our workforce.
"Reservists have an essential role in our Armed Forces. Through their dedication and professionalism they make a vital contribution to protecting the nation’s security at home and overseas.
“West Mercia Police has a Reservist Policy in place to support our employees in discharging this duty."
