PCC makes £150k available to improve road safety in West Mercia

Focused on curbing harm on West Mercia’s roads, Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion has launched his Safer Roads Fund to the tune of £150,000.

Accelerating the PCC’s commitment to make roads safer in West Mercia, communities and partners across the three counties can apply for funding to launch measures in their area to address local road safety concerns.

Building on the PCC’s £900,000 road safety investment into West Mercia Police, the £150,000 fund will support communities to introduce new innovative campaigns, initiatives and interventions which can reduce collisions, traffic offences and increase driver awareness to help improve behaviour.

The fund cannot be used for initiatives or equipment that are already funded by the taxpayer.

Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion said: “As PCC, road safety is at the heart of my Safer West Mercia Plan.

“It’s a sad fact that too many people die or are seriously injured on our roads. I am committed to addressing this and want to empower communities to play their part in a journey of change.

“While I continue to provide record levels of resources and tools to West Mercia Police to invest in vital road safety measures, I understand the role communities play in making roads safer.

“That’s why I am proud to be making £150,000 available through my Safer Roads Fund. I would encourage communities and local partners who wants to make roads safer in West Mercia, to complete the application by midday on Friday 3 November.”

More information alongside details on the Safer Roads Fund application process can be found on the West Mercia PCC website – www.westmercia-pcc.gov.uk/saferroadsfund.
