PCC backs Government crackdown on image-based abuse

Latest amendments to the Online Safety Bill will protect victims of image-based abuse, “revenge porn”, by changing current laws which require the prosecution to prove that perpetrators shared sexual images or films in order to cause distress.

This move by the Government has been welcomed by Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion.

“As Police and Crime Commissioner, I am focused on tackling violence against women and girls as set out in my Safer West Mercia Plan. I fully-support the Government’s amendments which will crack down on abusers who share or manipulate intimate photos in order to control or humiliate women and girls.

“The changes will give police and prosecutors the important powers they need to bring perpetrators of image-based crime to justice, rightly protecting women and girls from such sickening abuse.”
