PCC to focus on victims in the criminal justice system
Focusing on putting victims at the heart of the criminal justice system, Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion is holding his latest assurance and accountability session with Acting Chief Constable Alex Murray on Thursday 29 June.
The formal session will see a discussion between the PCC and the Acting Chief Constable on the Victim Advice Line (VAL). VAL is a free and confidential service, funded by the PCC, offering support that is tailored to those affected by crime across West Mercia.
Bringing to life the voices of service users in the session, the PCC will support and challenge the Acting Chief Constable on how the VAL is delivering for victims and where improvements need to be made, its relationship with partner organisations to help victims get the support they need, and its plan for a targeted campaign to raise awareness of its offer in West Mercia.
There will also be an update from the Acting Chief Constable on West Mercia Police’s work to ensure victims receive the care and support that they require by those who have the responsibility and training to deliver the best quality service.
PCC John Campion said: “Putting victims and survivors first is at the heart of my Safer West Mercia Plan. It is crucial victims receive the right support to cope and recover as well as receiving a service they expect and deserve from their police force and local partners.
“This meeting is an important opportunity, for me as your voice in policing, to ensure West Mercia Police is delivering on their duty to put victims and survivors first and reassure communities across West Mercia.”
