PCC strengthens support for young people and veterans across West Mercia
Two services dedicated to transforming lives have received more than £82,000 in funding from Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion.
With the funding going to West Mercia Youth Justice Service who work in partnership with the charity Your Support Services (YSS), this investment will continue the PCC’s support for both the Youth MORSE project and the Remember Veterans service.
Aligned with the PCC’s commitment to reducing the harm too often seen on West Mercia’s roads, Youth MORSE works with teenagers who have committed driving offences. Launched in 2025 following the success of the adult MORSE programme, the 12 week behaviour change course helps young people break negative cycles, build safer habits and work towards a more positive future.
To support exservice personnel, the PCC has also continued his longstanding commitment to Remember Veterans. The service addresses the complex challenges faced by those who have served our country – including PTSD, anxiety, depression, substance misuse and the often difficult transition from a structured military environment to civilian life following custody or arrest.
PCC John Campion said: “I am proud to continue my partnership and investment with YSS in services that are making a real difference to people’s lives across West Mercia.
“From young people who need early intervention to change harmful behaviours and keep themselves and their communities safer, to veterans who are struggling to adjust after their service, it is vital that the right support is in place to meet their needs and help them move forward positively.
“As Commissioner, I remain committed to ensuring the services I commission are diverse, effective and able to meet the wide range of needs within our local communities.”
Debb Grantham, CEO of YSS, said: “We are grateful to the West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner for continuing to invest in services that support safer communities across West Mercia.
“YSS MORSE Youth plays an important role in helping young people understand the real consequences of dangerous driving, supporting the PCC’s wider road safety priorities by reducing risk on our roads and ultimately preventing future victims.
“At the same time, Remember Veterans ensures that those who have served our country, receive the specialist support they need when facing complex challenges after military service.
This investment allows YSS to continue delivering practical, person-centred support that helps people make safer choices, rebuild their confidence and move forward positively.”
