PCC to shine a light on the voices of seldom heard communities in West Mercia

Focused on ensuring the voices of all communities across the three counties are at the heart of policing, Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion is holding his latest assurance and accountability session with Acting Chief Constable (A/CC) Alex Murray.

The formal session will see a discussion between the PCC and A/CC on diversity, equality and inclusion in West Mercia on Wednesday 25 October.

It will be an opportunity for the PCC to shine a light on the experiences and views of seldom heard communities. Within the meeting, the PCC will also be asking questions of the A/CC on data relating to stop and search, use of force and arrests.

PCC John Campion said: “As your voice in policing, I understand the importance of giving all communities a voice on the service they are receiving and what improvements they would like to see.

“In the lead up to this meeting, I have continued to engage with seldom heard and ethnic minority communities across West Mercia to greater understand their experiences, views and confidence in their police force which will feature in this meeting with the Acting Chief Constable.

“It's clear there’s a lot more that needs to be done to ensure these communities feel they are listened to and can have full confidence in the service they receive from West Mercia Police. I understand there are still improvements to be made, but I am confident this meeting will be another step forward on an important journey of change.”
