PCC supports scheme to help women break the cycle of crime

Landmark funding to steer women in West Mercia away from crime has been secured by Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion.

The PCC, one of only four PCCs to receive the funding, has been awarded £246,500 from the Ministry of Justice following a successful bid.

This funding boost will enable Willowdene Farm, who provides rehabilitative solutions for people in West Mercia, to fund a range of measures to help reduce crime and re-offending.

Introducing an Out of Court Disposal Coordinator and Assessor alongside a multi-skilled Interventions Tutor will help women break the cycle of committing crime.

This investment will also provide women with the range of support they need through a Parenting Counsellor to boost partnership work between providers such as social services and probation.

PCC John Campion said: “I am delighted I have secured more than £240,000 to expand the life-changing service Willowdene offers.

“I understand the benefits intervention and education bring to properly support potential or former female offenders, many of whom have complex issues, with the help they need to live a life away from crime.

“As set out in my Safer West Mercia Plan, this reinforces my commitment of reducing crime and re-offending in order to build a more secure West Mercia.”
