Rise in confidence of police force

Confidence in West Mercia police is rising with the majority of residents believing they are doing a good or excellent job.

John Campion, the PCC is committed to listening to and acting on the concerns raised by the communities in West Mercia. The survey is carried out to inform John which areas of the force are doing well and those that might require improvement.

Thousands of people across the force area were interviewed over a 12 month period which highlighted the following results for West Mercia:

Three-quarters (74%) felt that West Mercia Police were doing either a good or excellent job – a 7% rise on this time last year.

The majority of residents (85%) agreed that they had confidence in West Mercia Police – a rise of 1% on this time last year.

Three out of every ten residents (30%) report that they see an officer or PCSO at least once a week  – consistent with the last quarter of 20/21 survey

Around three-fifths are satisfied with the levels of policing in their local area. – a 2% rise from this time last year.

Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion said: “I have committed to the public that they will remain at the heart of policing in West Mercia.  This survey allows me to see how satisfied and confident West Mercia residents are with their local police service. I use these results to shape my investments in policing and effectively hold the Chief Constable to account on the areas of the service that need to improve.

“It  really encourages me that local residents have a good level of confidence in their police force.  There is always room for improvement, but following the year we have just experienced, I am reassured that the public still feel the service is progressing.   However, maintaining consistency around police officer visibility is not good enough, I want to see this improve.  I will continue to hold the force to account over the full roll out of the Community Charter, and  public accessibility will remain a priority for me, as well as maintaining a relentless focus on fighting crime”
