Victims of sexual violence to continue receiving vital support

Victims of sexual violence are to continue receiving vital support after the PCC extends funding.

Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion is pleased to recommission the West Mercia Sexual Violence Advocacy Service, which will provide invaluable support to those affected by any form of rape, sexual violence/abuse and sexual exploitation. This service will be delivered by the West Mercia Rape and Sexual Abuse Support Centre (WMRSASC) who were also recommissioned earlier this year to deliver the child sexual exploitation service. WMRSASC will be supported in the delivery of this service by AXIS.

Tackling sexual violence has continued to be an ongoing priority for the Commissioner, as he works to protect the most vulnerable in our communities and prevent this crime from ever taking place. However, where it has, he is committed to making sure the right support is available.

Commissioner John Campion said: “Ensuring the right support is available for victims of sexual violence is so important. We have heard in the recent days many accounts from people that have experienced sexual violence in one form or another, so it is imperative that they have somewhere to turn to as part of their road to recovery.

“I am committed to seeing victims receive the help they deserve. A key reason WMRSASC was chosen to deliver this important service is because they already have a vast amount of experience in this area of work.

Jocelyn Anderson, CEO of WMRSASC, said: “WMRSASC is committed to providing advocacy services that empower clients to make informed decisions, take back control of their lives and recover from their experience of sexual violence or abuse.

“WMRSASC provide specialist sexual violence support services, training and education to raise awareness of sexual violence to all sectors of society and will continue to develop and deliver services in partnership with the PCC.”
