Commissioner supports Worcester Protection Order
John Campion is supporting proposals aimed at tackling anti-social behaviour in the centre of Worcester.
The City Council is consulting on plans to introduce a new Public Space Protection Order. The order is intended to deter anti-social behaviour in the city centre, but would also give greater powers to the police to tackle issues like aggressive begging, public urination or people under the influence of drugs when they do occur.
Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion said: “Our police, other agencies and the voluntary sectors do a significant amount of work to keep the centre of Worcester a safe, pretty and welcoming place to live, work in and visit.
“The new Protection Order would give our police stronger, but still very much proportionate powers when they need them, to effectively tackle the sort of persistent issues facing many town and city centres. Crucially, it would also enable earlier interventions, to ensure that vulnerable people can get faster access to help when they need it most.
“I support the proposal and hope others will do so during the consultation”.
The City Council’s consultation continues until 24th April 2019, click here to learn more.
