Communities get more visible policing.

The West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner has welcomed schemes to make the police more accessible to communities.

A mobile police station is touring key locations across Worcester, Malvern and Wychavon, allowing officers to understand, and act upon community concerns. Officers are also travelling on buses in order to engage with the community, making best use of mobile technology to be out and about with the public, and will be displaying A boards outside police buildings to indicate when people can drop by, to speak with officers.

Commissioner John Campion said “I am committed to protecting frontline policing as outlined in my recent budget proposal. The public expect the police to visible and accessible in our communities, in order to fully understand and respond to local issues. Through these schemes, this expectation is being met, as people engage with the officers in a way that is convenient for them.

Through this and my investment in mobile technology, I am committed to ensuring the public get the access to the police, as and when they need it.”

South Worcestershire, Superintendent Kevin Purcell said “This is an example of how my officers are making best use of the vehicles that they have been given and the modern technology.  As well as being visible they can record crimes that are reported to them, create incident logs and when not chatting to the public carry on with paperwork on other policing matters.  We would encourage the public to pop along for a chat or if necessary to talk through any concerns.”

The mobile police station is equipped with useful materials, crime prevention leaflets and property marking equipment. Personal visits can also be arranged to suit particular needs.
